Project overview:

Knights Academy is a medieval martial arts school based in Toronto,
with branches across Canada. I created a landing page that stands out

from competitors and solves students’ pain points.

Event calendar

Event calendar

Event calendar offers a range of events from Knights Academy or independent organizers to support a community of enthusiasts of medieval martial art. The event is presented in list form and allows users to post an event.

Community

Community

In a community page my goal was to make students to feel engaged and motivated, so I created a ranking of Champions, the best student of the Academy,
each gets rewarded with a medieval knight nickname. A user can see
either best knights of the month or all time. This would motivate students
to attend Academy's events to climb the leaderboard.

Why I chose this design concept

Why I chose this design concept

After researching 10+ websites of medieval martial arts schools,

most popular visual choices were using large action and real photos,

white background, black text, serif and bold typography,

with overall loud and tough tone of voice.

A complete opposite direction was chosen to achieve a unique design.

Colourful, bright, medieval elements, instead of real action photos,

I only used medieval illustrations.

Key takeaways

Key takeaways

This design project showed how important is to research and understand user's pain point is before starting a design process. Visual decisions should not come only from aesthetics, moreover to serve a function and solve a problem. It was an extremely interesting creative field to research and a blast to find unorthodox design choices.
